I started Rake & Fleam to solve a problem: I wanted to sharpen my own saws perfectly, but I couldn’t find a file guide for sale anywhere online. The ones I found were either sold out or out of production.
So I set out to make my own. I wanted a guide that worked better than any that came before it, and I wanted to find a way to manufacture it affordably so I could offer it to the hand tool community.
Additive manufacturing made it possible to build a complex device with low overhead. I’ll be keeping my day job unless this really takes off, so I’ve partnered with a US-based print-on-demand shop to make and ship the guide for you.
For now, I do my woodworking in a community workshop. My goal is for this website and the Rake & Fleam guide to fund a workshop of my own one day.
